The Four Rules of Gun Safety
- Always treat every gun as if it is always loaded.
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
- Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until your muzzle is on target.
- Know your target and its foreground and background.
Note: All students must have memorized these or another acceptable set of gun safety rules prior to the beginning of any training session.
American Shooter: How it Works
American Shooter recognizes that all shooting sports are connected, and that the traditional way of learning to shoot, evolved over centuries in the United States, exists for a good reason. Our curriculum is designed around a four-course sequence which traces the natural path of development your shooting skills would have followed if you had grown up shooting as a child and into your adulthood. From no knowledge whatsoever, you can advance to precision marksmanship, skeet and trap, or defensive shooting quickly but naturally, without developing bad habits, ready to tackle any shooting sport you desire.
Read MoreIt is expected that all students (of a reasonable age) will have the Four Rules (given above) or some other acceptable set of gun safety rules memorized prior to the beginning of class, and students will be asked to recite their gun safety rules before teaching begins.
Each American Shooter course includes both a "classroom/lab" portion and a "range" portion. The classroom/lab portion is hands-on training, and if you are training remotely you will need your own firearm or training replica. (If training in person, you will have the benefit of American Shooter's training aids.) There will be no Powerpoint slide show, but rather discussion, demonstration, and conversation between you and your instructor. Be prepared to take notes.
American Shooter classes are private, and your instructor comes to you. The classroom/lab portion will be conducted at your home, place of business, club meeting space, or other conference space convenient to you. Range instruction will be conducted at the range nearest to you which offers the necessary facilities.
There is no final exam for any American Shooter course. Your instructor will work with you (time permitting) at your own pace at each stage, until you are ready to proceed to the next stage of learning and practice.

What Makes Us Better...
Experience: 25 years of every kind of shooting there is, from hunting to competition to combat training, from rifles to shotguns to pistols to machineguns. American Shooter knows how all of these fit together, and how a shooter benefits from each.
Attitude: American Shooter has no prejudice when it comes to guns. We hold marksmanship, wing shooting, "tactical shooting," and purely fun "plinking" in equal regard. All are part of the shooting family. When you go to the shooting range, it should be fun, and American Shooter will make sure that it is.
Method: The best way to learn to shoot is the American Shooter curriculum. If you just want to know how to handle a gun safely and make an accurate shot, then you're done after Lesson One, but we don't think you'll stop there. Shooting is just too enjoyable. You'll want to know what else you can do. Each lesson builds naturally on the lessons before, until you are comfortable and confident with any kind of shooting sport or task. That said, if have no shooting experience at all and you do need to learn the basics of a particular skill fast, we have special training techniques to get you where you need to be.
Standards: American Shooter is not a license mill. We teach people to shoot, and to be safe, confident, and comfortable around guns. You will receive personal instruction not to put a check in a box but to make your gun an effective tool and a treasured companion.
Our Training Tools:
Airsoft...
For beginner education and teaching basic techniques and concepts in the classroom, we use a small collection of highly realistic Airsoft replicas. These gas-blowback and spring piston Airsoft guns offer all of the mechanical function and feel of the real thing, without the recoil or noise, and they free us to work shooting drills in the comfort of your home or classroom. In some cases, they even field-strip like the real thing.
.22 Long Rifle...
At American Shooter, we are believe strongly in the American tradition of teaching new shooters (and sometimes remediating old shooters) with the venerable .22 Long Rifle cartridge. Its reoil is nonexistent, its muzzle report minimal, yet it has the ability to reward a good shooter with excellent accuracy and effect on the target even out to 100 yards and beyond. Some of the best time you will ever have on a range will be "plinking" with your favorite .22. We use the CZ 457 and the Ruger Mk IV 22/45 specifically.
Full-Caliber Firearms...
Generally, students will shoot with their own full-caliber firearms, as the goal is to make you proficient with your own tools of choice. However, for demonstration and trial purposes, American Shooter can offer a wide selection of guns, from the ubiquitous AR-15 and Glock 19 to more boutique options such as custom hunting rifles and competition-grade pistols.
Laugo Alien tested
What it does is reward good technique astonishingly, without the need for a compensator or barrel porting…
American Shooter, the Complete Guide
Not so long ago, it was the most common thing in the world for a young child to spend the day playing in the countryside with a .22 rifle or a shotgun. Accidents were rare, school attacks were unheard-of, and safe, accurate shooting was a common skill. Today, the American shooting culture has learned mountains…
