Unbiased News Media

“The news media should be unbiased and nonpartisan and just report the truth.”

Says who?  The whole notion of an unbiased, nonpartisan media was an invention of leftist media bosses of the mid twentieth century. The idea that a human institution can be unbiased is utter nonsense, a fantasy entertained by people who refuse to deal with reality.  It has never existed, and no, it should not exist.  You want an unbiased, non-partisan media because as long as you can convince yourself that the media is unbiased and nonpartisan, and dedicated only to giving you the truth, then you can shed onto them your responsibility for doing any research, doing any thinking, investing any effort in discerning the truth and making your own decisions.  It’s not a idealist impulse in you, it’s an impulse of cowardice, an impulse to get someone else to tell you what to think, because you’re afraid if you try to think for yourself, if you try to weigh all the different statements by all the different partisan speakers, you won’t be able to tell what’s true, and you’ll get it wrong.  Or, because you just find that process uncomfortable and distasteful.  That’s not so much cowardice as it is weakness and laziness.  So, cowardice or laziness; take your pick.

No, there should not be an unbiased, nonpartisan media, first because such a thing is impossible and second because you should not be relieved of your duty and responsibility to think for yourself and make your own decisions.
